On the way back from Sefad we went for a dip in the sea of Galilee and after that to eat lunch near by in Tiberias  It was a hot afternoon (an understatement)  and the thought of eating shawarma outside felt wrong. We decided to sit in a restaurant and enjoy a fresh st. Peter’s fish. Mom remembered she was once in a homely cooking restaurant that was tasty and not far so we went there. It’s called “Guy Restaurant”, a family restaurant, the kids are the waiters and they are famous for their stuffed vegetables. The atmosphere is very homely and simple and they had air conditioning (score!!).
We acted like the locals and ordered root beer. Don’t know why but this is what everyone around us drank. And also Goldstar + diet sprite to make a Shandy. It was very appropriate for the hot weather. For starters we got pickled vegetables and pitas. We asked for extra pickles and we were kindly given more. No pressure on the salads section like some other places do, thank you.
The fresh fried fish (52 nis) was excellent, delicate and made exactly right. didn’t feel too greasy as well. It came with fries and salad. The salad, unpictured, was very large and thinly chopped. It was good and the fries were ok but aren’t worth the calories.
Then we got the inside parts stew dish. This day there was only the face parts stew (45 nis), though we could read in the menu other dishes like lungs, brains and spleen that we’ll have to try another time. But the face parts was also very good, soft meat and nice red paprika sauce. Came with steamed rice that I can’t resist.
To try the stuffed vegetables we took the artichoke stuffed with meat (13 nis). It came lonely but was tasty, mom really loved it. I guess they used frozen artichoke base so a bit bummer. Only afterwards when I searched for former reviews of the place I found out someone wrote the artichoke was her least favorite out of the stuffed selection. Oh well, next time.
The pricing is very reasonable and it came out to 142 nis for 3 persons including drinks and air conditioning.
We wanted to finish the meal with Malabi or Bavarian cream (we were in the mood) but remembered it’s a kosher place so… pass. We went outside to look for something good in the streets. No such luck with the Malabi anywhere. The street was so hot we were melting just standing in the shade. Furthermore, there were no ice-cream places anywhere which was suspicious. We finally found frozen yogurt somewhere and were happy to cool down and go back to the car’s AC and back to Tel-Aviv.
