Thursday was Yariv’s Bar Mitzva and the family woke up early to go to Sefad’s old city’s synagogue. After the ceremony we walked around the old city. Then we came across a stall of Yemenite food. It was very touristic but never seen before food combination. None of us was hungry after the huge breakfast and the refreshments outside the synagogue, but we had to try it! So we ordered one so that everyone could have a taste.
The Lahuhe (or Lahoh) is sort of a pancake pita bread originated in Yemen. It has a spongy texture due to the yeast action and typically eaten with soup or stew. This one was turned into sort of a pizza with toppings. Cool!
Started with pan frying the dough mixture, only one side.
Then adding za’atar, parsley and red onions..
Grated cheese and olive oil
Slices of tomatoes and the locally produced salted white cheese from Kadosh Dairy. The other famous dairy in Sefad is Hame’eiry’s which I talked about in this post.
Flipped it to the other side so the cheese will melt and then on a board and slice it.
Recommended with their home made Sehug spicy sauce.
It was very good, all the flavors went together and even though we were not hungry it made us want more!
