I had a whole post about Paris, not mentioning food. It’s hard. The reason is that it fit a whole new post. And there is more to come soon about the restaurants. Enjoy the pics!

Patisseries: we try to enter every day to try their Flan Nature and sometimes choose something interesting to taste.

so pretty

The first place we got Macaroons, was this. It was in a Patisserie but I guess not fresh enough so I was disappointed.

bad macaroon!

To recover from the first trail I tried a place that specializes in macaroons. The choice was hard but I went with caramel and chocolate – pretty basic.

"I will consider it and give you an answer in a bit.."

They were pretty good, especially the chocolate one which was fudgey inside and crisp and fresh on the outside. But I’m not sure they are worth paying so much for (those two cost more than 4 euro).

good macaroons

While looking for a studio we found ourselves walking mainly in residency areas and far less on the touristic hot-spots. This is why we found that fruits are everywhere on the streets. It feels a bit like the streets of a tropical country with this amount and range of fruits. The prices are high of course, but basically close to the prices in Israel, now that fruits are so expensive in Israel as well.

Fruits and also big mushrooms

This berry was a nice snack while walking.

Small bits while walking

This is just one very nice looking boucherie. We found out that chicken is not that cheap in France as in Israel. Of course the cheapest meat here is the pork and then lamb, duck, rabbit and chicken, the red meat is pretty expensive as well, similar to how much it costs in Israel, maybe some parts even more. So we ate a lot of pork and lamb, and sea food which is always a good choice once your out of Israel.

Pretty meat!

This is one typical dinner of pork. We were so busy with running around all day that at evening my parents treated me with making a salad and a pork steak with all the cheeses that accompanied our every meal.

the lettuce here is good and fresh.

For breakfast, this is a huge French-toast made by my dad from all the day old baguette.

Huge French Toast

For another dinner we made carpaccio to eat with a fresh baguette.

arranging the carpaccio

With olives paste, balsamic vinegar, pepper, salt and olive oil

We tasted every evening a different wine.

And a seafood dinner that I cooked

Frozen sea food for a quick dinner

My mom drying some more lettuce

Spinach

Shrimp

Coquilles Saint Jacks (Scallops in English) are my favorites!

A pinch of salt to the boiling water

concentrating

Voila!

white wine to go with all the sea-food

Another night I was upset that I still didn’t find a place so dad took over and made pork in apples. Good comfort food.

In the process

Ta-Da!

And for dessert, something that’s called chocolate pudding, but It taste like souffle in a pie.

It's the cheapest cake in the patisserie but it's good!

And next was the lamb dinner

with herbs and tomato

And Mom made the salad with pears and walnuts this time

when the lettuce is good, all is good

the wine was sweet this evening, a bit too "Petel juice"

And if you’re already taking the red meat, it’s great quality, better make a steak tartar out of it and eat it raw.

with a raw yolk on top of course, seasoned with roquefort and mustard

For dessert some tiramisu, why not.

...

And a little update about the apartment hunt, I found a small studio alone in the 15th (good area) in a reasonable price. It’s small but at least alone and all the extra cash can be invested on eating out and going out with friends! Horay!

This is how it looks like now, hope to make it look better.

Next post: some more food, Restaurants etc.

  1. Fabulous post! the home cooking looks sensational! Will you have a place to cook in your flat – or maybe you wont have a desire to do so after a long day of Chef School! All the best! xoxo
