This dinner took place a while back but I only now gonna write about it. Francois and Didier came back to Paris at the same time, I was still here with my parents and we invited both of them for dinner at Astier. This day I had bought my Paris 2011 michelin guide and Astier written there under its specialty of the fromage platter. This is not why I chose it, Jade had recommended it and it was open on August. It’s a classic french cuisine restaurant, the tables are pretty packed and it got crowded pretty fast. The service was professional but when the waitress broke one of our wine glasses we were not offered any kind of compensation.

suggestions of the day to the diner menu

We asked our guests to translate the whole menu.  It took a while but done with pleasure.

Francois also choose the wine, this is the first one, pretty light taste

Entrees:

Filet of makarel over minestrone cold soup of vegetables and basil.

Raviole of red onions and gorganzola.

Plats:

Colin fish, vegetables and chorizo and jus of herbs

Filet of daurade, flat beans and celery puree

Rollad of cochon (pork) with roots salad

Heart of rump-steak, potatoes in garlic and red wine jus

tender lamb in a pot, gnocchi with fresh coriander black olives and tomato confit

The second wine Francois choose for us

Fromage:

A platter full of cheese came to our table and we asked our local guests what are we expected to do. The polite way is to cut to yourself three pieces of your favorite cheese and eat them in the order of intensity. Well… we just took a small piece of pretty much everything.

A look from the other angle

Mom's plate in the middle of digging in to the platter

Desserts:

Melon soup with fruits, fresh vanilla and sorbet of currants (or was it another kind of berry?)

Sablè (kind of cake) with dark chocolate mousse and fruits, I didn't like the cake itself, too dry

Pastry cream caramelized with pineapple and strawberry jus, my favorite!

The bill

It was an amazing meal, not everything was perfect but the whole experience was overwhelming, very classic feeling and of course I enjoyed the company. I loved the lamb and its juices. The steak dish had a nice sauce but they overcooked the meat a bit, and the green herb jus was weird. I was impressed with the perfect cooking of the fish but have to get used to the different style. Loved the Raviole and the pineapple dessert, the melon soup was great too.

typo – “The service was professional” not “The service was promotional” although I guess that any service that is professional is also promotional… 😉
