Hmmm…. Spicy  pepper sauce squid and pork with vegetables… My Favorite Korean dish which I Take Out once a month from Darai. You probably remember I was bragging about it more than once. It looks like this basically:

Darai’s perfect white rice and a dish of squid and pork with carrots, onions and zucchini with spicy red pepper sauce. Delicious!

I thought why not give it a try and cook my own Korean spicy dish. I used pork, onion, carrots, zucchini but no squid this time.

Chopping all my ingredients.

I used this red curry paste which is more Thai curry but this is what I bought last time in China town shopping.

Carrots and onions go first with the curry, some oil and some more seasoning like chilly, garlic, sugar, salt, pepper… and I added the kimchi (salted spicy cabbage) I had left from last TA

Let it all cook while the rice is slowly steaming in the back

Adding the zucchini and the pork after a while, they need less cooking time.

Succulent and ready..

Served over fresh white rice

Conclusions: It was good but didn’t taste the same!! I guess they use some other more Korean spices. Also I think adding the cabbage made it too acidic, I shouldn’t have added that. The carrots had to be pre-cooked, they were too crunchy and the pork had to be cut smaller. I definitely need a second round.. (Or should I just go back and buy it from the specialists cooking 5 minutes from my place and selling this stuff in 5 euro?) Yet I did enjoy it very much for three days in a row. I love spicy food!

    Hi Mashav,
I just found your site and have been obsessively reading about your experiences at school. I will start Ferrandi this Fall and am a bit nervous as I am a total beginner. Anyway, I live in Paris and I am Korean American so I love that you love korean food. I can tell you where to go to buy the korean ingredients!
