Just before going to a ballet / opera / theater in the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center it’s recommended to have a light dinner or a snack. Once the show is over, starving for over two hours, the crowd is flowing outside and meets the bagel man “3 for 10”. Want to avoid this redundant carbs attack? There are few options in the area. Last time we tried Toto, Italian cuisine, with a very good reputation in Tel-Aviv. I never been to Toto before, and this needed to be fixed at once!

The permanent menu arranged by categories: vegetables, pizzas, pastas, fish and meat. Prices ranging from 35 NIS – 168 NIS.

We were suggested bread. It wasn’t on the menu but still costs extra so we declined. We got great olives instead.

The house white wine in a glass was an Austrian Grüner Veltliner 2011 (28 NIS), dry and light. Great to open the apatite.

Yellowtail Tabule: sashimi yellowtail, herbs salad, yogurt and almonds (74 NIS). It was a very light and fresh dish. Nothing new or amazing though.

Oxtail tortellini, cream of white root vegetables, beef stock and truffles (88 NIS). A very well composed dish. The filling impeccable, the pasta well done and the sauce very good. It was just the right amount of sweet and salty.

Jerusalem artichoke ravioli, calamari, green onions and leeks (92 NIS). This was definitely my favorite dish, one of the specials. The sauce made this dish heavenly, all the components matched together and were cooked perfectly.

Beef tartare “Toto Style” (92 NIS). This dish was excellent too, really hit the spot and beautiful on the plate.

Saint Honoré – pâte à choux filled with crème patissiere, chocolate mousse, praline and caramelized banana (44 NIS). A very good dessert. The banana caramelized inside the skin, the chocolate mousse was nice and the st. honore were pretty good. Maybe it’s too overwhelming dessert with its sweetness, but not if you like the genre.

Flan with brioche cubes, creamy white chocolate ganache, blackberry and wild berry sauce (38 NIS). It was more like panna cotta than flan but a very creamy one. Amazing cream. I loved this dessert but maybe the cookies inside were too many or could be out altogether.

An overlook of the table with the desserts. We were four but couldn’t finish all this sweetness. The show was about to begin and my aunt and mother had to drag me away from the dessert by force. Ahhh.
I really enjoyed Toto. It’s expensive but well worth it. The quality of products is noticeable, and the effort and thoughtfulness put to each dish is admirable. The focus is on the flavors, the sauces were excellent. For me, the quality of sauces means a lot. The service was good as well, the atmosphere was relaxed. I will happily come back for more. Good thing we made a subscription for the dance season in the Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center. Sadly the dance show we saw didn’t rise to the expectations, but oh well, this blog isn’t about it.
