Zepra Lunch Deal

Few weeks ago I met Itay for lunch at Zepra. We haven’t seen each other for a while and the first thing he asked me was if I’m gonna write about this lunch in my blog. Of course I did.

The popular lunch destination is packed by noon…

The lunch deal price depends on what you order. You get a drink and a first course in the price of the main course with possible additions for extra pay. It can be anything between 61 NIS for the cheapest dish to more than 200 NIS if you order a special first course and a more expensive main course. We went for two of the cheaper options. We sat on the bar, the restaurant was full and the bartender said the dishes will take a while, around 20 minutes. We were fine with it but they ended up being delivered very fast and in an odd order. I got both of my dishes before Itay got even one of his. Itay’s first course came last.

Big bar in the middle and tables all around. The decor is industrial-high-tech-night-bar style.

The drink that came with the meal: Ginger Lemon Grass Lemonade tasted just like normal heavily sweetened lemonade. Disappointment!

Crazy Buddha – sprouts, daikon, snap peas, sesame vinaigrette and wasabi foam. It was fresh and intriguing yet too sweet and had a bizarre after-taste.

Vietnamese Nam, chicken, duck, plum chili vinaigrette. Was a nice one bite starter. We liked it but we got it late.

Surrey Curry: Wheat noodles, chicken, pork, pair of shrimps, nuts and peanut curry (66 NIS). I really liked this dish, the noodles were wide and well cooked, I enjoyed the peanut sauce and it was spicy. Had a lot of surprises inside.

Only if you like peanuts!

Nasi Goreng: Fried rice with chicken, smoked duck, shrimp, tofu, egg and chopped vegetables (63 NIS). Itay ordered this dish because it had a lot of elements described but we were sad to find out it was all chopped so small that we couldn’t tell if there’s any of it in there. Most of it was just fried rice with egg cut on-top. All the rest was hard to find. The seasoning was tasty though.

Bottom line:

The lunch rush hour was so hectic it caused our orders to get to us in a weird rhythm. It made our meal feel like a fast food restaurant in a way. The dishes were mainly good but some misses like over sweetening the salad. Also, in this price range it was absurd to get a dish described with five different proteins but ended up almost vegetarian. Why be so cheap with the products?
