Ordering a delivery is like double jeopardy because as well as you can’t tell how good the restaurant is, you can’t imagine how well they deliver. This is why I took the risk for you and found out what happens when you order a delivery in many restaurants, price ranges and kitchen type in Tel-Aviv area. Let’s face it: a nice lunch makes the day brighter and a bad lunch can make you feel blue all day long.
Taking into account only the meal I ordered of course, I marked the delivery by four measurements: packaging, taste, value for money and healthiness each marked out of 5. Combining all four criteria for the total mark out of 20.
The scale (out of 20 points):
18-20 – Best Bets
15-17 – Reasonable Lunch
11-14 – Pretty Bad
10 and under – Pitiful
Best Bets
Ze Sushi: (20/20)

Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Value for money: 5/5 Healthiness: 5/5

It’s a really nice combination, with a decent amount of good quality fish and well sealed rolls. My preferred side dish is the salad which is fresh with a nice sweet and sour sauce. The soup is not the best misu soup I had.
Home Made: (19/20)

Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 4/5 Value for money: 5/5 Healthiness: 5/5

Baked beef meatballs with cherry tomatoes, fennel in chicken broth, green beans with peanuts and dried figs, brown rice – mujaddara, bread and tahini (40 NIS). Cool restaurant that has many interesting and fresh side dishes to choose from. I added the brown rice but could do fine without it. Needed to add salt to everything but then it was really good.
Coffee Bar: (18/20)

Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Value for money: 5/5 Healthiness: 3/5

The burger was very nice and I assembled it myself, the mystery soup was tasty with tomatoes, vegetables and white beans and came with a small bread as well. The potatoes were awesome. Everything was good in this lunch, very heavy though.
Hummus Caspi: (18/20)
03-6485322
Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 5/5 Value for money: 4/5 Healthiness: 4/5

Caspi Hummus with pine-nuts, tahini, pickles and pitas (25 NIS), Chopped salad with extra za’atar (18 NIS). So fresh and good, makes an excellent lunch.
Reasonable Lunch
Ha’achim Restaurant: (17/20)
03-6917171
Packaging: 3/5 Taste: 5/5 Value for money: 4/5 Healthiness: 4/5

Chicken Seniyyeh: Pan of boiled chard and roasted chicken with Bharat, creamed tahini, sumac, parsley and almonds. Served with salad (48 NIS).

The dish was really tasty and fulfilling though lacked a bit of salt. The salad was watery and horrible.
Taverna: (17/20)
1800361888
Packaging: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Value for money: 5/5 Healthiness: 4/5

The blintzes were freshly made and very nice but I needed some sauce on top. The cabbage was great and the buckwheat was not bad. Awesome value for money!
Laboratorio Di Pasta: (16/20)
03-5616116
Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 4/5 Value for money: 4/5 Healthiness: 3/5

Tortellini filled with ricotta cheese and spinach, sauce Bolognese with Beef and tomatoes, parmesan, fresh basil, parsley and coriander. Caprese salad: mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and pesto (37.6 NIS)

I think it was a decent pasta dish, I liked it. The salad was light and refreshing. Came with a small bottle of sparkling water. I would order it again!
Sui Sushi Giv’ataim: (16/20)
03-5732516
Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 3/5 Value for money: 4/5 Healthiness: 4/5

Salmon baked, sticky rice and teriyaki sauce- served with cucumber and seaweed salad (31 NIS). An okay dish. The sticky rice was nice and salmon was not dry. The salad wasn’t that good.
Falafel BaRibua: (16/20)
03-6881688
Packaging: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Value for money: 4/5 Healthiness: 4/5

Hummus, tahini, parsley, olive oil, paprika, chickpeas. Served with falafels, hot pita bread, pickles, garlic and lemon sauce (25 NIS). Not a big dish of hummus but a satisfying amount. The falafels arrived soggy and cold.
Giraffe: (15/20)
03-6916294
Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 4/5 Value for money: 4/5 Healthiness: 2/5
Sergo’s: (15/20)
03-5615121
Packaging: 4/5 Taste: 5/5 Value for money: 3/5 Healthiness: 3/5

Pork Schnitzel with chipotle mayonnaise and lemon. Served with bread, side dish of green-beans and brownies (56 NIS). Good lunch, the pork was nice and the greens were fresh and a good addition – some people envied me for them. The brownies were dense and moist, I loved them but only got two little squares.
Sander Jewish Kitchen: (15/20)
03-6883344
Packaging: 3/5 Taste: 4/5 Value for money: 5/5 Healthiness: 3/5

Chicken soup with kreplach (Polish dumplings), served with cooked carrots, Israeli couscous, chopped liver, pickle and bread (35 NIS).

The soup with kreplach was good for a winter day, even though I could not avoid the little soggy noodles inside that I dislike. The carrots were sweet and the best part of the meal. The chopped liver was nice and I had to eat it the next day because this lunch is too much!
Sushi Samba: (15/20)
03-6444345
Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 4/5 Value for money: 2/5 Healthiness: 4/5

Three rolls that are beautiful and a lot of effort was put in them. Good quality of products and aesthetics. Each roll packaged in its own plastic box. Not all the description of the dish could be found (the crab in the rainbow for example), a bit expensive for what you get.
Marcelo’s: (15/20)
03-6887737
Packaging: 4/5 Taste: 4/5 Value for money: 4/5 Healthiness: 3/5

Grilled chicken livers with onions seasoned with soy and honey accompanied by garlic fries, pita bread and pickles (39 NIS).

The livers were nice and pink inside, the sauce wasn’t bad, too runny in my opinion. The fries were soggy and I donated them. I tasted the tahini and salad of Julia’s dish and it’s definitely a better side dish. The pita was fresh and it was a lot of food.
Pretty Bad
Cubia: (12/20)
03-5232724
Packaging: 3/5 Taste: 2/5 Value for money: 3/5 Healthiness: 3/5

Hmosta kibbeh soup, green beets, celery and garlic, kibbeh with ground beef and onion. Accompanied by white rice and pickles (39.9 NIS).
I wasn’t too happy with this dish, It arrived cold, and out of 5 kibbeh, 3 were dry and not fresh, as if kept from the week before.
Chandra: (11/20)

Packaging: 4/5 Taste: 2/5 Value for money: 2/5 Healthiness: 3/5

Business Curry thali: Pieces of chicken breast cooked in coconut milk. Served with brown rice, vegetables in curry, lentil soup and a cold chai drink (40.8 NIS). I love Indian food but that food is not honoring Indian food. The best thing about it was the green little spicy chutney. The rice was okay. The chicken pieces were dipped in a bad sauce after being cooked elsewhere and I had burnt pieces inside. The rest was just bland.
Pitiful
Tea Party: (10/20)
03-5273749
Packaging: 5/5 Taste: 1/5 Value for money: 2/5 Healthiness: 2/5

6 different dim-sum, rice and pickles (31.5 NIS), I added three more pieces, each for 4.5 NIS. I’m not even gonna describe the type of these dumplings as they were all bad and tasted the same: heavy dough, unrecognizable filling and not fresh. The rice and pickles were the best part.
Yamisan: (9/20)
077-5305401
Packaging: 4/5 Taste: 1/5 Value for money: 1/5 Healthiness: 3/5

Business combinations: salmon and tuna nigiri, avocado salmon maki and tuna cucumber maki with sweet potato and basil. Served with sweet potato ginger soup (55 NIS)

That was a disaster. Low quality product, bad handling of the products, the seaweed was chewy and not fresh, lack of aesthetics. The soup was bad as well.
Ritanga: (7/20)
03-6132220
Packaging: 3/5 Taste: 1/5 Value for money: 3/5 Healthiness: 0/5

Penne pasta, mushrooms, onion hoops, fried sweet potato cubes and garlic in white wine and parsley olive-oil sauce (22 NIS for the small dish). Bad, bad bad. No need to explain, you can see for yourself.
I’m doing my best to keep tasting as many variety of deliveries possible and I’m sure there’s gonna be a “part 2” post in few months from now.
