Shila doesn’t say “Shila” upfront. It’s just a nameless door in Ben Yehuda, filled every night with crowd that just know it’s there. Fortunately, we know Shila is there and that Shila has always been one of the top restaurants in the city. Inside – loud music and a chic bar atmosphere. Outside, on the street, wobbly high bar-chairs around few tables fit to a calmer crowd, and in addition, a private room outside for events. I chose Shila that night because I felt like having a nice dinner without taking risks. The focus on the menu is seafood and if you’re not in the mood – than really it’s not for you.
Seven years ago, around the time the restaurant just opened we went there and were moved by the octopus salad, we liked it so much that we called the next day asking how they cooked the octopus, and in return, they sent us the recipe by email. They keep this dish till this day but only makes it when there’s fresh octopus and sadly there wasn’t any this evening. Bummed a bit but not defeated we checked the rest of the menu. It was hard to select. Not because there was nothing I felt like having, on the contrary, I wanted to try too many of the dishes! Looking at the menu now makes me want to come back and explore the rest of the menu. This is the best result of a menu.
