It took me approximately forever to get to write this post, but trust me, this one’s gonna be a useful one. If you live in Tel Aviv, you’re probably gonna end up having a delivery of food at your doorsteps at one point or another. It can be convenient and fun but it can also be horrifying. Let’s try to avoid the latter. To keep it simple I’ll verdict each meal with a single YES/NO. Keep in mind that one meal doesn’t reflect about the entire menu of a place and that the quality of the deliveries can’t predict the “sitting down” experience at that place. Good luck!

They sell mainly burgers but we took the Entrecote Sandwich, one with Vegetables and one Classic (41 ILS each), and a side of Home Fries (15/22 ILS). I preferred the classic one with bell pepper and onions. The bun was sweet and soft, but a bit soggy delivered all mushed together packed inside tin foil. The Home Fries were everything but appealing – all burnt.
The verdict: YES!

The concept of the place is that you get 2-3 little burgers. You can choose which meat (beef, lamb..) but know that it’s possible to ask for one of each (they don’t have this option normally). Generally – it’s fine. I don’t like the style of the bun (dry) and the meat is more like a kebab rather than burger. The price isn’t bad though, two small burgers for 27.5 ILS.

I had the Sergos Burger with Emmental cheese and bacon, and a side dish of green beans (53 ILS). Sergos has great packaging – everything was separately packed avoiding sogginess. The burger is really good, cooked Medium as I wanted and very fulfilling. The greens are fresh and light and the little chocolate brownie that always comes with Sergos’ delivery is a real treat.
The verdict: YES!

I heard good things about their burgers but I was ultimately disappointed. I had the “Smoked” Burger with Smoked Goose breast and Grilled Onions (44 ILS). I didn’t even recognize it in the box. The topping of one slice of not so successful goose breast, that came instead of bacon, for the sake of being Kosher, was a bummer and replaced the tomato and pickles that I love regardless of the toppings, and so I had to steal someone else’s pickles for this to be worthy. The meat itself wasn’t amazing but okay. The onion rings are fun (but the frozen processed kind). The bun was good.

This meal was the most expensive out of the burger bunch (62 ILS), and honestly it wasn’t bad at all: Medium Burger with Emmental and Bacon, garlic mayo, fries and coke. They were very late with my order and sent me a small brownie to compensate. It was so heavy that I couldn’t even finish the burger. The fries are never as good in a delivery, so they were donated to other hungry co-workers. I was stuffed after that. The packaging was very well taken care of, the box amazingly opens to this big black plating area where you’re supposed to put the fries and sauces. Is it worth the extra 10 ILS over the Sergos burger? I don’t think so.

We made a big delivery from Zozobra one day. Their packaging is remarkably well done, you can see they are doing this for a while now. We took two lunch meals of a starter, main and dessert and added another starter. We started with the Vegetable egg roll and Burmese salad and the extra dish of Chicken nuggets with sweet and spicy sauce which was very good but cost extra on the lunch menu deal (+24 ILS). The mains were Saigon Pho: a really good soup with crispy chicken balls (52 ILS) and Seoul Noodles: rice noodles, pork and vegetables (52 ILS) which was spicy but I didn’t love them so much. The desserts were Coconut and Caramel cream with red fruits sauce (~15 ILS) and Creme brûlée (~15 ILS). There were also two bottles of red and yellow lemonade.
The verdict: YES!

Pekin has become a nasty place. It used to be not bad 15 years ago but now it has either remained unchanged and we developed our palates or it really just got worse. Order from here if you feel like eating junk oily Chinese. The lunch menu is cheap (37 ILS) but you get what you pay for. Extra oily vegetable egg roll, pork in sweet and sticky sauce and then you can choose noodles or rice. If you choose noodles you get a large amount of overcooked-oversalted-overoiled egg noodles with tiny bits of vegetables. You ask for the steamed rice and you get both rice and a generous amount of these noodles anyway. Don’t forget to smear everything with a radioactive sweet and sour sauce.
The verdict: NO!

Pat Qua is the more expensive option if you’re looking for Asian delivery. It’s 79-109 ILS for a business lunch. We ordered one wok noodles set for 79 (59 with a lunch card) ILS and another pork dish set for 99 (75 ILS with a lunch card) ILS. The lunch includes Chinese pickles that I really like, a starter of soup or salad. I liked the salad which was a bit similar to the pickles only cut thinner and with some peanuts on top. The Sweet and Spicy soup – I didn’t care for but Omer thought it wasn’t bad. We got a big plate of steamed rice and the two main courses were better than I expected. It was tasty but still I’m not sure it’s worth the price. The dessert was little dough balls filled with dates. Weird but a nice change from the fried banana classic.

This place has nothing to do with Thai food. If you keep that in mind you can be positively surprised. I took the Beef and vegetables with basil meal with fried rice and pickles. The beef was tender, the sauce was nice and none of it was too greasy. Pretty good for the price – 40 ILS.

We made a delivery from here because soon after the opening of this new Asian place, we went to sit there and had two wonderful salads (soon to be reported as well). I’m not sure if the delivery made it bad or did they change the recipe already but the Spicy Cambodian beef salad: Rice noodles, watercress, crispy shallots, red onion, red chili, mint, coriander, tamarind and peanuts (44 ILS) was nothing like last time and none of the above. We got a soggy lettuce, bell pepper and red onion yesterday’s salad with bland pieces of overcooked beef and crispy rice crackers. Yuk. Next was Gili’s crepe: Shrimp, beef, okra, sprouts, shiitake mushrooms and green onion in a rice and turmeric crepe (38 ILS). Underseasoned dull and too greasy. The Pop Fish dish of Mullet, green beans, chili, red onion and peanuts (48 ILS) saved the day and was pretty good but a bit too sweet.

I tried several places that have a salad bar where you choose your salad ingredients. This place is pretty cheap – 24 ILS for the 650ml salad with two toppings. I took it with Bulgarian cheese and boiled egg. All the ingredients were fresh, the dressings were a bit small and not that well made.

Alé is my favorite salad place because you get the best value for your salad. The medium salad of 1 liter is 25 ILS and for the toppings of egg / egg salad / cheese you pay a few extra ILS (or none at all, like me). Quinoa and wheat does not cost extra and the bun is nice too. The only issue is the dressings of the salads – too small and not that great. A small tip – don’t add carrots because they put too much of them.

I had a ready made salad called Jaffa salad – 1 liter: tomatoes, cucumber, hard boiled egg, parsely, chickpeas,red onion and croutons (3o ILS). It came with 4 optional salad dressings (!), which could have been great but it wasn’t really. Every little plastic of dressing container was not even half filled and after mixing in everything, and the little salt package – the salad was still anemic and tasteless.

This time I counted on Sergos to give me a nice salad that’s out of the ordinary. Bummer that it wasn’t. I had a meal of Tomato soup (22 ILS) which was really good but very small, and an Artichoke salad with cherry tomatoes, broad beans and parmesan (38 ILS) which was disappointing. There were a lot of artichokes but it was filled with oil. The few little leaves there were in very bad shape from the oil and the three tomatoes and few broad beans weren’t enough to meet with the amount of parmesan. Anyway, sometimes it’s not enough just to take expensive elements and throw them together. This salad lacked something (vegetables maybe) and it took a lot of bread for me to be able to eat it.

Sometimes less is more, just a normal salmon would be a lot better. The quinoa was fine, all the rest was just not tasty and the salad was awful too. I took it home and mixed it with some other vegetables to make an edible salad. Not recommended.

I felt like having a different salad for a change and found this option in Go Noodles: Chicken salad: chicken, sprouts, radishes, kohlrabi, cucumber, pickled ginger, coriander, cashews and sesame seeds with spicy Thai sauce (40 ILS). It came as a fairly big salad, the chicken braised in soy sauce so it wasn’t bland. The sauce was great and the cashews were a big plus. I really liked it as a light but fulfilling lunch.

Another bad lunch that I never want to experience again in my life. It’s like the kids menu, only it would be a crime to feed your kid with this food. I took the “Greek Garlic Shnizel” with salad and tahini, mashed potatoes and honey mustard and garlic mayo condiments (30 ILS). The Schnitzel was tough and dry and had nothing Greek to it. The tahini was smeared all over the salad and I suspect the mashed potato was made from powder – so disgusting. Never again.

I loved PamPam’s meal. I’m already waiting for next time. It was 3 lamb kebabs sitting on top of warm tahini with pine nuts and grilled onions, a side dish of mejadra and some good portion of great hummus (37 ILS) that came with pita and Za’atar pita toast. I know some vegetables were missing here but it was my fault – can’t say no to mejadra. The meat was excellent, I loved the warm tahini and pine nuts and it was so large I had it for dinner as well. The za’atar pita toast was the only thing wasn’t right – you had to toast it again to regain its crunchiness.

Everything I tasted from Marcelos was pretty great. This time we went for the Lamb kebabs meal and the Chicken liver with honey-soy sauce. With two side dishes, this meal will cost you 45 ILS (or 39 ILS with one side dish). The mashed potatoes is a bit orange color and is very good and so is the rice and salads. I don’t like the french fries just because they always gets soggy on deliveries.

Tandoori is fun and tasty, but a bit heavy. Also we got three little chutneys – green, red and yellow. The waiting time was very long for this delivery but when it finally came it was so good – maybe I was too hungry to notice really. Good value.

This place is proud to have 100 different types of small sandwiches in their own made tiny baguettes. I took two types and two side dishes. They were Lamb Siniyee and chicken sate sandwiches, a small salad and small onion rings (37 ILS). I asked for the whole wheat bread but I didn’t get it, and the sandwiches were very small and disappointing – no tahini in the siniyee (there should be a law against it), the chicken barely had any peanut sauce on it. I asked for an explanation but they were rude and never called me back.

After visiting the place, I was happy to order a TA. The Burrito with pulled pork and everything but corn inside (38 ILS). It wasn’t spicy enough but I guess they couldn’t have known I like my Mexican food spicy, but it was very tasty and a good lunch. Next time I think I’ll like better the burrito salad bowl where everything comes as a salad and the burrito on the side for self filling.
