Lots of people I know say they don’t like tofu. Like other things, I image it’s just a matter of bad first experience that shadows reality. Not only who’s vegetarian should put tofu in his diet, as it’s a very high protein and low fat product (just don’t obsess about it or you’ll get man boobs haha). There is not much of a selection for tofu in Israel (as I witnessed in China). I like the soft kind of tofu. The one I used here is Dragon soft tofu. Another great one is “Silk tofu” that can be eaten as is! What I’ve made to give it great taste so easily and fast was to slice it to chubby sticks, fry without oil on a non stick pan until it gets some crunch and color. Then added either black bean and garlic paste or teriyaki sauce, then some light soy. That’s it! The possibilities are endless. Try it also with five spice seasoning, or peanut satay or hot peppers…
Blackened tofu and sardins

Safta’s last week’s dinner was in a rush (I had to get to Jerusalem for Student’s night that evening). Safta tried something new with mini red bell peppers stuffed with cheese.
It was really fun to eat and so tasty. I guess she added that “tasty spice” of hers once again!
Perfect little bite
After Student’s night I stayed at Ina and Alex’s new apartment and the next day went to a walk down town.
Nothing interesting culinary wise there, but I did show Ina every single Russian food store I used to buy at when I was living in Jerusalem. We also found a new “east-west” store. I was hoping to find a garlic red sauce which I’m looking for a while now, but no success. I did find this very useful other thing that’s on the next pic:
Next day at work we went all three (!) of us to Iceberg Volcano Hod Ha’sharon with a coupon. I took the fettuccine creamed with bacon and spinach. The good: lots of bacon, lots of garlic, the pasta itself was well made, It made me feel full all day without dinner. The bad: too little spinach, too much cream, made me feel a little nausea when I tried to go dancing that evening. The ugly: they have basil shrugs but when I asked to add some fresh basil to my pasta I was told by the waiter it’s decorative only. I got 2 small leaves for bagging. Fail.
Some fresh basil is missing
Friday at Azrieli’s mall I was happy to discover a re:bar I was really happy with the week before. But let me tell you, workers on Azriely branch are nothing like the amazing shakes girl at Dissinghoff’s branch. They were slow and funky, not in a good way. My mom mentioned they have dirty uniforms, and there were about double the workers then customers. I took the medium cup of the Cheese cake shake with energy boost. It was too much for me and instead of energetic it made me sleepy. Weird.
