I like quiche.
Sometimes I have a craving for a nice savory quiche or a sweet tart. So I was happy to find out that the Supermarkets started selling frozen shortcrust pastry dough besides the good old puff pastry dough. I know it’s a lot easier to make the shortcrust pastry then the puff but I knew having it in the freezer could come in handy one day. And then, one day, Barak came back from a day and a half trip with a bucket of 1kg “Hashachar” chocolate spread that those kids couldn’t finish. On Friday I defrosted the dough. I bought the savory dough but thought it would mix well with the chocolate, because I like the taste of sweet meets savory.
The package was big enough to make something extra so I made small savory quiches as an appetizers for the steak meal we were planning that Friday. Now I’m gonna let the pictures do the talking.
I fitted the dough inside a tart mold
These are the leftovers I had left after using most of it for the tart:
Small souffle dishes, covered with the dough:
Cutting leftovers:
All the molds were covered with baking paper and topped with grains, as a weight so the dough will not rise. I used Friki (Green wheat) because this is what I had but you can use anything. Don’t worry, you can still cook it later. Medium heat oven, 10-12 minutes and then couple of minutes without the cover.
After the oven.
Preparing the onions and zucchini filling:
With egg and cheese. Didn’t add the regular cream, it was meant to be light.
Filled the small molds with the filling and above some dried tomato paste, fetta, blue cheese and Parmesan on top. In the oven they went.
Out of the oven after 10 min or so. By the way, I made one without the crust for mom (she try not to eat white wheat).
Close up..
Simultaneously I was making the filling for the chocolate tart. Actually I was doing an unbaked filling for this one. Started with softening eights of apples with cinnamon.
Placing them on the baked base.
Heated the chocolate on a double boiler. All the recipes used real chocolate and butter so I figured this spread kinda consists of them both.
Added whipping cream
Vortex!!!!
Ontop of the apples and let set
After set for two hours in the fridge.
Sprinkled some coco powder…
The finished products:
Served the quiche with mom’s tomato and herbs salad
In the middle there was a steak. And then came the shachar chocolate-apple tart:
We oughta not make a habit out of it.
